How To Clean Tile and Grout In Your Kitchen, Bathroom, or Wherever

by | Feb 1, 2014 | Tile and Grout

Whether you have wall-to-wall porcelain tile floors or a smaller counter top of marble and grout. You want to keep your tile and grout clean and looking good.

While the level of grime and mold may dictate whether you need a professional tile and grout cleaning company to perform the work, I’ve got a great tip I like to share with my customers when I’m done cleaning their kitchen or bathroom tile. And I’m happy to share it with you.

Here’s a great way to keep your tile and grout looking great for longer than a month.

Tile and Grout Cleaning Secret Is…

Using powdered oxygen bleach is a great way to clean your tile and grout. It’s safe for the family and pets and it won’t harm your colored tile or grout.

It works much like traditional chlorine bleach but without having to worry about it burning your eyes, skin or ruining your tiles. Oxygen bleach kills bacteria and brightens your white surfaces but it won’t discolor your colored tiles.

Which Is Better

You can get oxygen bleach in both liquid and powder form. When using it to clean your tile and grout you want to be sure to use the powdered form. The liquid form usually comes in spray bottles and isn’t strong enough to get the job done.

How To Clean Your Tile and Grout

Add water to the powdered solution as advised by the manufacturer. Many have different dilution recommendations so read the label carefully.

Once the solution is mixed, you’re ready to go. You want to completely saturate the grout. This will be easy for floors and counter tops. But for walls it will be more difficult. You’ll want to use a sponge to soak the grout on the wall and keep it wet for about 30 minutes.

After the tile and grout soaks, you’ll want to gently scrub the grout with a grout brush or a toothbrush works well too. The dirt and grime will immediately lift and you’ll see beautiful clean grout and shiny tile. Rinse with clean water and let air dry.

The Real Secret

While the oxygen bleach works great on any stain and will restore your tile and grout to almost like new again, the key is maintenance. If you let the grout go too long without cleaning, permanent damage can occur. And don’t forget a good sealant can help add life to your tile and grout.
